When you live at the beach you tend to get a lot of family and friends from far away coming to visit. I love that I get to see so much of them — some of them even more frequently than when we shared the same zipcode! But family is, well, family and while you can pick your friends…you know the rest of that story.
We live in a smaller house and we take up 110 percent of it so when family or friends come to visit we really have no choice other than to make recommendations for where they should stay. There are some pretty nice Holden Beach hotels not far from where we live that now know most of our relatives on a first name basis. I think it’s great. Everyone around here is very kind and very pleasant. Northerners call it “Southern Hospitality”. I just say we’re really, really friendly people. It’s all that sunshine we take in on a regular basis. I doubt I’d be so happy and pleasant if I lived up north where it snows six months out of the year.
I’m truly grateful for where I do live along the coast and I do appreciate that we get family and friends visiting. It gives us a good excuse to get out and do things in the area whether it’s playing golf, renting jet skis or a boat, or going deep sea fishing. When our family is staying in a hotel they’re within walking distance to our home so that makes it pretty convenient for all of us.
Occasionally we’ll hop in the car and take a day trip to either Myrtle Beach or Wilmington to enjoy whatever action is going on. It’s nice living in such a family-centered community where we’re central to so many things. I think I'm beginning to see why we are the vacation destination for everyone in our family!
